Responsibilities
- Coordinate with the work crew to ensure safe traffic movement around the work zone in compliance with safety regulations.
- Flag motorists and vehicles to alert them to obstacles or ongoing repairs.
- Maintain safety for both the work zone and passing vehicles at all times.
- Set up traffic control devices (signs, cones, barricades) as needed per job assignment.
- Direct traffic flow in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) / MUTCD guidelines.
- Clear and professional communication with clients, co-workers and general public.
Requirements
- DEPENDABLE
- Must be 16 years or older
- Valid driver’s license encouraged but not required
- Reliable vehicle unless authorized for use of company vehicle — must be able to travel to and from job sites (some sites may be up to 2 hours away)
- A phone (cell or landline) — used for schedules, communication, and check-ins
- Strong communication skills — flaggers stay in constant contact with the crew
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time
- Lift up to 35 lbs
- Work long hours when necessary
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather
